The deputy executive chairman of Sports Direct Mike Ashley has branded City doom-mongers as 'cry babies' in response to their views of his company.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, the publicity-shy billionaire said: 'I've got balls of steel. Some investors have been great and have been really supportive. But some of these City people act like a bunch of cry babies.'
Sports Direct's corporate governance came in for criticism as its top executives have appeared to avoid the glare of public scrutiny despite calls from the analyst sector.
Finance boss Bob Mellors was described as the 'no-show FD' by one disgruntled analyst.
