Redknapp and Mandaric cleared of tax evasion

HARRY REDKNAPP and former Portsmouth FC chairman Milan Mandaric have been cleared on two counts of evading tax on payments made to Redknapp's Monaco bank account while he was Portsmouth manager.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager was cleared by a jury at Southwark Crown Court of evading taxes on payments totalling £189,000.

The prosecution had claimed that the payments were made in connection with Redknapp's employment and that consequently tax should have been paid on the transaction.

Mandaric told the court that the payments were made because he wanted to do "something special" for Redknapp because he was a friend
