Government FDs should reveal limited company officials

Treasury looks to ascertain the number of senior government officials working through limited companies

A HM Treasury sign

THE TREASURY has contacted government finance directors to ascertain whether they know of senior officials in their departments being paid through limited companies.

After details emerged of senior officials serving as contractors for the Department of Health and the Student Loans Company, the Treasury is looking into how widespread the practice is.

The taxman could potentially become involved in the investigation if it is thought that the arrangements are solely for tax avoidance purposes, according to The Independent.
