FTSE 100 finance directors picked up an average total pay of £1.15m in 2011/12, while the FTSE 250 FD saw average pay at £586,384.
According to the 2013 FD Salary Survey by sister publication Financial Director, 57 FDs earned in excess of £1m in the 2011/12 financial year, while 195 topped £500,000.
Salaries have held relatively steady in recent years, with Financial Director's previous survey of a mix of 2009 and 2010 accounts revealing average total pay of £1.10m.
Last year, the total salary of the FTSE 350 reached £213m, of which £104m in bonuses were awarded during the same period.
Importantly, however, a fair chunk of this was deferred. As much as £31m was mandatorily deferred, while £3.8m was deferred on a voluntary basis and 25 finance directors within the list took no bonus at all last year.
