MOTOR RETAIL GROUP Pendragon has appointed former KPMG partner Mel Egglenton as chairman.
Mr Egglenton joined the company in December 2010 as an independent non-executive director, and will succeed Mike Davies, who will retire from the board and as chairman at the 2013 AGM.
A former partner at KPMG LLP, he chaired the firm's UK audit committee as a member of the board, taking on the role as UK senior independent partner at the company.
Egglenton is a non-executive director of and adviser to a number of UK-based private companies, and considered by the board to be independent.
Of his appointment, he said: "I am looking forward to working with the board and the executive team in the next phase of Pendragon's progress."
Mike Davies said: "I am delighted that I am handing over the role of chairman to Mel, who has brought both energy and valuable insight in his role as a non-executive director."
Davies added: "His sound understanding of Pendragon and our sector mean he is well-placed to lead the board as Pendragon continues to develop and work to our strategy."
An external search for a candidate for the position of independent non-executive director and chairman of the company's audit committee is under way.
