According to reports in the US, KPMG is now actively looking at the embattled Big Five auditor, but is thought to be more interested in only acquiring Andersen's European practices.
A spokesman for KPMG declined to comment on the talks but said: 'Things are being kept under review.'
The move follows the news that both Deloitte & Touche and Ernst & Young were in discussions with Andersen, which could soon face criminal charges for obstruction of justice.
Of the Big Five, only PricewaterhouseCoopers currently remains uninvolved with merger talks.
