E&Y and Equitable battle over expert evidence

A new round of fighting between Ernst & Young and Equitable Life will kick off tomorrow as the Big Four firm seeks to battle against some of the expert evidence provided by the life insurer.

Both sides confirmed that a hearing at the High Court was scheduled for tomorrow morning in front of Justice Langley.

E&Y was to claim at the hearing that two of the experts used by the society to support their case, Mike Arnold and John Cryan, had overstepped the mark in what they are allowed to express an opinion on. The firm is seeking to have chunks of their reports declared inadmissible for when the full trial begins, which is currently scheduled for April next year.

Last week E&Y reiterated its intention to mount a 'vigorous defence' of complaint laid against it by the Acountants Joint Disciplinary Scheme over the audit of Equitable's accounts during the nineties.
