Legal aid lawyer jailed for fraud

On Friday, a crown court judge lifted reporting restrictions on the case in which Robinson, along with 21 employees, was convicted of fraud after claiming for millions of pounds of work that was never done. Robinson was released in July after serving half of a seven-year jail term. The lawyers' scam centred on the Green Forms that were used by law firms to claim for certain types of Legal Aid work. In hearings at the time, Bristol Crown Court heard that solicitors and clerks exaggerated their bills or simply made up clients to such an extent that they would have had to have been working 30-hours-a-day. The scam was uncovered after police received a tip-off from a member of staff. Robinsons Solicitors no longer exists. Reporting restrictions were lifted on Friday after the case against one of the defendants, Archie Ross, 51, was ordered to lie on file when he was ruled unfit to stand trial.
