Blewitt dismissed claims that his organisation, which has 17,000 members in Hong Kong, faced a ‘dramatic’ drop in the number of students taking ACCA qualifications, following a deal that requires the association’s members to take extra exams before earning the local qualification.
But Prem Sikka, professor of accounting at the University of Essex and an ACCA member, warned that the association’s student numbers would drop ‘dramatically’ because of an earlier deal to allow Hong Kong-qualifieds to then be allowed to join the ICAEW.
Sikka said many students would take the Hong Kong qualification and not bother with ACCA.
