The Institute of Directors has called for the threshold for CGT to be lowered, and for the tax to be simplified, to enable more tax to be raised.
The proposal, alongside one to scrap inheritance tax, was outlined yesterday.
Miles Templeman, the director general, said: 'Inheritance tax is now a tax on the thrift and financial independence of ordinary working people. It is time for it to be abolished; with some of the tax benefits offset by changes in capital gains tax.'
