Big Four to bolster Primary Care Trust board abilities

Three of the Big Four chosen to improve health board's framework

KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young have made successful bids in working to improve primary care trust board' skills.

The consortiums have been selected for the Department of Health's new PCT board development framework.

Seven consortiums have been chosen from 225 applicants.

All selected consortiums are now required to propose a tailored package of support that will improve the board's knowledge, skills and behaviours in world class commissioning.

According to Gary Belfield, DH director of commissioning, a strong and effective board was critical if PCTs were to become world class commissioners.

'The seven suppliers on the board development framework provide an excellent range of programmes to develop good board governance. These programmes will provide targeted support for PCT boards as they adapt to the demands of world class commissioning and the NHS next stage review,' he said.
