Regitech says sorry to aggrieved customers

newmedia newmedia, CRN, 29 Oct 1998

Troubled reseller Regitech Data Systems has apologised to its consumers and the channel for being a poor trader.

As exclusively revealed in PC Dealer (7 October), Regitech was exposed by a two-month investigation by the magazine which showed that Trading Standards officers were attempting to ban Desmond Johnson, director of Regitech, from running any companies in the future.

Johnson told PC Dealer this week that he applauded the investigation which revealed he had a string of failed companies behind him. Regitech was the tenth company owned by Johnson, which has attracted more than 100 complaints in a month from unhappy customers.

He said: 'No matter what, the article was a very good thing to have happened because it highlighted weaknesses and set benchmarks. It told me we were in the public eye and we can't do that (allow complaints to build up) again.'

Johnson attributed RDSL's problems to failing to deliver 200 computers, although he claimed efforts were now being made to link customers, cash and computers. He refused to give PC Dealer the new address where staff are sending kit out to irate customers upset about three-month delays on their orders.

He claimed all customers had been told the new address and if PC Dealer chose to become a customer, then the address would be offered.

Customer Alan Thomas said he had not heard from the company since his cheque for #799 was cashed three months ago. He was considering a complaint to the police having waited months without success for equipment he has bought and paid for.
