Another year, another million-pound-a-year FD. Last year's FTSE-350 FD salary survey revealed seven FTSE-100 FDs in the seven-digit bracket, with another two in the FTSE-250. This year, our eighth annual survey has nine FTSE-100 FDs and one in the FTSE-250 earning a million plus.

As last year, data for this survey has been kindly provided by BoardEx, the board and director analysis organisation, with data analysis by Financial Director. The job of being a FTSE-100 FD now pays a basic salary 6.5% more than last year, with a total package that's just a whisker short of £700,000. Peter Clarke at Man Group tops the tables again, thanks to a huge £2.1m bonus. John Coombe at GlaxoSmithKline, BSkyB's Martin Stewart and Abbey National's Stephen Hester move into millionaire's row.

A FTSE-250 FD job carries a basic salary 6% higher than it did last year. From last year's FTSE-250 million-pound-earners, William Hill's Thomas Singer is now in the FTSE-100 but, like Barratt's Colin Dearlove, couldn't repeat last year's bonus. Investec's Glynn Burger is the seven-digit FD in the FTSE-250 this year.
