Ebbers to face WorldCom fraud charges

Bernie Ebbers, the former chief executive of WorldCom, has been charged over the $11bn (£6bn) accounting scandal that engulfed the telecoms operator in 2002.

The charges include conspiracy to commit securities fraud, securities fraud and filing misleading information with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

And former finance director, Scott Sullivan, has pleaded guilty to three criminal charges: conspiracy, fraud and making false statements to regulators about WorldCom's financial state.

The news was revealed by John Ashcroft, US attorney general.
