Former shift manager takes on the top finance role at pub chain
A FORMER shift manager at Wetherspoons has been appointed its interim finance director.
Ben Whitley, who first worked for the pub chain in 1999 after studying maths at Durham University, moved through a number of internal audit and finance roles at its head office. He qualified as a chartered management accountant in 2012.
Whitley holds the fort following the departure of Kirk Davis to take Greene King’s CFO role in November.
Solicitor Nigel O’Connor is promoted from head of licensing to company secretary.
Nigel joined the Company in June 2009 as head of licensing. He previously worked for McLellans Solicitors and qualified as a solicitor in 1997.
Tim Martin, chairman, said: “The board is pleased to announce Ben and Nigel’s appointment. Ben especially, is an example to the rest of the company of the progress they can make.”
