Ex-Mirror man gets a slice of Domino's audit action

Already an independent NED of Next, Barber has been chairman of its audit committee for eight years and boasts over four decades in the accountancy and finance arena

FORMER MIRROR GROUP FD Steve Barber has been appointed as a NED at Domino’s Pizza.

Formally taking up the role on 1 July, Barber will become a member and chairman designate of the fast food outfit’s audit committee.

Already an independent NED of clothing retailer Next, he has been chairman of its audit committee for eight years and boasts over four decades in the accountancy and finance arena.

The pizza purveyor also announced that Michael Shallow will retire as chairman of its audit committee and from the board of directors on 31 July 2015 having delivered nine years on the board as an independent NED.

Commenting on Barber’s appointment and Michael’s retirement, Stephen Hemsley, chairman of Domino’s, said: “We are delighted to welcome Steve to Domino’s. He brings excellent financial experience as both an executive and non-executive director of FTSE100 and 250 companies in the retail and media sectors as well as the audit profession.

“His arrival further strengthens the Board as we continue to implement our strategy for growth of the business. I would also like to thank Michael for his contribution to the board of Domino’s, most recently as our senior independent director and we wish him well for the future.”

Barber has clocked up almost 30 years in accountancy, primarily with Price Waterhouse where he was a senior partner and also with EY. He was also COO of Whitehead Mann and is a member of the Audit Quality Forum and chairman of Design Objectives Worldwide.
