Time to pay our FDs more

Hernias and headaches must be rampant at media group Carlton: hernias from carrying the cash for boss Michael Green, and headaches from counting it. Green starts with a basic salary of #470,000, but that pales into insignificance in the light of his other payments.

Chief among those was a distribution of a quarter of a million shares in the company under a long-term incentive scheme, worth a cool #1.2m.

Add in the annual bonus and the total came to #2m last year.

Poor finance chief Bernard Cragg, who had to deal with all that cash, was rewarded with a mere #324,000. Surely time for FDs to start negotiating bonuses based on the size of the cash they have to dole out to their leaders.
