FD wanted to do whole job in half the time

It must be difficult for most financial directors to contemplate anything less than 120% commitment to their jobs. Yet we now have the strange concept of the part-time FD. A recent advert called for such a person to work for a firm of architects.

The successful candidate, as they say, would have “full responsibility” for the finance function, project costing and management information.

And she/he would “not only set the financial agenda” but would also be involved in IT, HR and company secretarial issues.

“This is a very hands-on role”, the ad proclaimed. Yet all that was to be accomplished in “approximately” two days a week. More of a hands-off role than hands-on.
