Ever since the appearance of the touch-tone phone we’ve been promised the ability to close our curtains and turn on the lights at home – while still in the office. So forgive us being a tad sceptical when a group calling itself Roke Manor Research develops a “portable embedded Web server” that will allow you to make toast at home, from wherever you can access the Web! The serious purpose of the claim, however, is that the software can be used to program and activate industrial machinery, remotely. Okay, we buy the idea. One question, though: how do you get the bread into the toaster?
