MOVERS: Siddall builds on success at Alpha

Stuart Siddall

has joined AMEC as group finance director. He will take up the position in June after leaving Alpha Airports Group, where he was also FD. Previously he was finance director at MANWEB and spent five years at Balfour Beatty. His knowledge of the engineering and construction industry is based on 16 years spent at BICC.

Stephen Young has been appointed finance director of Thistle Hotels, with Harvey Sutcliffe stepping down from the role. Young recently spent time as FD at the AA, following 7 years as group FC at EMI Group.

Welcome Break finance director Richard Pennycock has been appointed chief executive of the independent motorway service operator. Ian Harris replaces Pennycock as group FD.

Steve Lucas has been appointed finance director of the Transco group. Lucas is currently treasurer at BG Group and was formerly finance director of British Gas, before being appointed to his present role in December 1998.

John Kennerley is the new finance director of Hogg Robinson. He has held senior positions with AVC plc, Tomkins and Grand Met, and was also group FD at Powerscreen International, where he helped tidy the firm’s finances after accounting irregularities at its Matbro subsidiary.

Stagecoach has appointed Martin Griffiths, the group’s business development manager, as FD, prompting a fall in the transport company’s shares and calls from investors for a stronger board. Griffiths has taken over from Keith Coltrane, who was promoted to chief executive after Mike Kinski’s resignation. The company will also be appointing a new non-executive to replace co-founder Ann Gloag, who is stepping down.

Martin Greenslade has been appointed finance director of armoured car and specialist military vehicle manufacturer Alvis. He was previously London-based MD of Scandinavian investment bank MNB Maizels.

Lloyd’s Corporation, the administrative arm of Lloyd’s of London, is looking for a new finance director following the announcement by incumbent FD Bob Hewes that he is to step down after 12 years. He joined in 1988 as director of regulation, taking the FD’s role in 1994. He will leave later in the year to ‘pursue other interests’.

Andrew Osborne has been appointed finance director at construction group Osborne. He will take over from David Burden in the summer. Osborne joins the family firm from the Paris office of Davy Corporation.

The long awaited boardroom reshuffle at rail maintenance company Jarvis has brought in Bill Colvin as finance director. Colvin is joining after being the FD at NHP for only four months. Jarvis’s share price has plummeted from 787p in June 1998 to 125p earlier this year, and the appointment is intended to restore City confidence. Building magazine quoted sources at NHP who claimed Colvin is ‘massively blunt’ and ‘a bit of a fixer’, and said

Jarvis should provide the ‘new challenge’ he claimed he sought after leaving British Borneo last year. Henry Lafferty will step down as FD to concentrate fully on Jarvis’ PFI programme, while Daniel Francis will replace Colvin as NHP’s FD.

Simon Mould has been appointed as CFO at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, following Klaus-Michael Geiger’s appointment to COO. Mould was formerly COO for global equities at the bank.

Charles Power has been appointed FD by Dorling Kindersley, which was recently acquired by media group Pearson.

KFC (formerly Kentucky Fried Chicken) has chosen its former UK FD Justin Ash to lead an expansion programme, opening 50 new restaurants a year for the next five years. He rejoins KFC as chief operating officer after a spell at Allied Domecq.

Etam has appointed Nick Pain as finance director. He previously spent nine years as FD at Bay Trading Company.

David Wheeler, FD of the Longmead Group, has resigned due to ill health. His position will be filled by Nigel Newman until a replacement can be found.
