Newly appointed Amey FD Michael Kayser has quit after just five weeks in the position. Eric Tracey, a Deloitte & Touche partner, has joined as acting group FD and will present the preliminary results in March 2003. Amey chairman Sir Ian Robinson says the departure is made “more disappointing” as the board is looking for a period of management stability to implement its plans.
Cider maker HP Bulmer has fired FD Alan Flockhart after the discovery of £3.8m of “unidentified promotional costs”. The move follows the recent departure of the company’s chief executive, Mike Hughes, and Bulmer has scrapped the payment of last year’s and this year’s dividends.
Budgens FD Steven Back is set to join troubled retail company Somerfield as group FD. Back will replace current group FD Martin Gatto. The group has also seen the recent departure of chief exec Alan Smith after it announced a profits warning.
Finally an FD still in his job. MyTravel (formerly AirTours) FD David Jardine remains in his post at press time, despite the company issuing its third profit warning in five months and the resignation of chief exec Tim Byrne.
Marina Wyatt has left Psion Group to join COLT Telecom as group FD. She replaces acting CFO Andrew Steward, who resumes as CFO of COLT’s majority shareholder Fidelity International, which put its people on the COLT board in 2002.
Food and soft drinks group Nichols has named Brendan Hynes as group FD. Hynes joins Nichols from business support services company KPS, where he served as group FD. Prior to KPS he was group FD at William Baird. Current Nichols FD Simon Nichols assumes the role of company secretary and remains on the board as a director.
Denis Mulhall has been appointed CFO and finance director of Oxford Glycosciences. Mulhall has previously worked at component manufacturer Metzeler Automotive Profile Systems and Enodis predecessor Berisford.
Centrica group FD Phil Bentley has been appointed a non-exec at Kingfisher, and will become the chairman of Kingfisher’s audit committee after its meeting on 8 November 2002.
Exhibitions specialist ITE Group has promoted group FD Ian Tomkins to group chief exec, with a replacement FD to be appointed in due course. Tomkins joined ITE in 1998, and played a role in the restructuring programme undertaken by the company over the past 12 months.
Spirits marketing and distribution company Maxxium has appointed Nicholas Shutter as finance and IT director. He was previously a senior manager at Diageo for four years, where he was responsible for founding Burger King Central Europe.
Telco consultancy IDN Telecom has appointed Matthew Lonergan as FD. Lonergan was previously head of finance and operations at Mitsubishi Electric and prior to that he served at Luxfer Group and Lonrho.
Integrated communications agency GyroGroup has named Richard Glasson as group FD. Glasson was previously CFO of private equity company Avanti Capital.
Following oil and gas company LEPCO’s acquisition of Sterling, the merged entity, Sterling Energy, will contain several new board members, including Graeme Thomson as FD.
South east restaurants and bars owner Hartford Group has appointed Colin Lewin as group FD. Lewin previously served as FD of Jamies Bars and was at Halma Group.
Luxury hotel group Le Meridien has appointed Iain Ferguson as vice president finance. He leaves his position as group treasurer and director of corporate finance at Thomson Travel Group.
Online IT recruitment company Hot Group has named Steve Wright as CFO. He leaves another recruitment agency, Computer People, where he was FD. Wright has 20 years’ experience in financial roles.
Adrian Jeakings has joined Archant (formerly Eastern Counties Newspapers Group) as group FD. He was previously group FD of Stationery Office.
Design services company Aukett Group has promoted Patrick Carter to group FD, having named him FD and company secretary in May 2002.
Voicemail supplier and SMS messaging provider Intervoice has appointed Richard Arnold as FD.
