On the move - Byron lords it as new CFO of BP

Dr Byron Grote is the new CFO of BP, succeeding Dr John Buchanan who retires after six years in the role. Grote was appointed an executive director of BP and chief exec of BP Chemicals in August 2000. He will retain board responsibilities for the integrated supply and trading function and the Asia region.

Outsourcing and consultancy group Xansa has reshuffled its board and appointed Peter Gill as FD from 1 January 2003. Gill replaces Geoffrey Dunn who resigned during the reshuffle to “pursue other interests”. Gill is currently CFO of the Penguin Group, the consumer books publishing division of Pearson, and previously served as group FD of Dorling Kindersley Holdings from 1993 to 1997.

Marconi FD Steve Hare has stepped down and will be replaced in January 2003 by Marconi group FC Chris Holden until a permanent replacement is found.

David Wolffe has left BBC Worldwide after eight years to become AOL UK’s finance director. The move follows the recent appointment of AOL Europe’s new senior VP and CFO Giles Spackman. Previously, Wolffe worked at the BBC, News Corp, Telewest, Discovery Corp and Pearson.

Rolls-Royce has named Andrew Shilston as its new FD – effective from 1 January 2003. He will succeed Paul Heiden, who in July announced his intention to leave the company at the end of 2002 to become chief exec of engineering group FKI. Shilston was FD of Enterprise Oil from 1993 until 2002 until its takeover by Shell this year.

Packaging company Rexam has appointed Graham Chipcase as group FD from February 2003. He is set to take over from Michael Hartnall. Chipchase spent five years in the audit and tax department of Coopers & Lybrand Deloitte before joining BOC as corporate finance manager in 1990. He left BOC last year to join GKN as FD of its aerospace services business.

The imminent merger of Logica and CMG will see Logica group FD Seamus Keating become LogicaCMG’s group FD. CMG chairman Cor Stutterheim will become the non-exec chairman of the newly merged company.

AIM-listed management software provider Systems Union Group has appointed Tony Sweet as CFO. He was previously a partner at PwC.

Housing and development company Taylor Woodrow has named former Bioglan Pharma FD Peter Johnson as its new FD.

Karen Elwell has joined risk and insurance management group Bland Bankart as group FD. She has previously served as a director at two other major financial services companies.

Engineering and construction group Balfour Beatty has named former NatWest and HSBC Holdings FD Richard Delbridge as a non-exec director. His other previous employers include JP Morgan and Arthur Andersen.

Engineering company Stadium Group has announced the resignation of group FD Tim Sale. His position will be covered internally by UK electronics FD David Collins and Stadium Asia FD Andrew Lam. Stadium Group chief exec Nigel Rogers will take responsibility for finance matters at board level.

Lloyd’s director of finance and operations Andrew Moss has become an inaugural member of its franchise board. The board replaces two older-style committees – the market board and the regulatory board.

Audit firm and fraud investigator Capcon Holdings has promoted FD Cliff Cavender to MD. He will retain responsibility for the company’s finance function. Capitol Group’s Steve Jones has been appointed FC.

IT software and services provider XKO Group has named Robert Kimber as group FD. He served as group FD of Druid Group for five years until Xansa acquired it in January 2002.

Channel Television Holdings FD David Jenkins has joined the board of Winchester Entertainment as a non-exec director.

Nick Friedlos is joining Land Merchant Securities as FD in January 2003. He will leave his position as FD of Land Securities Trillium, having played a significant role in Trillium’s sale to Land Securities in 2000.

Tim Cooley is the new CFO of lender Mortgages plc, having served as head of structured finance at Kensington Mortgage Company for the past five years.

Learning disabilities care provider Robinia Care Group has named Ben McGinn as FD. He joins from Grant Thornton where he was a senior manager in its audit and corporate finance team.
