Kinnock's daughter-in-law embroiled in accountant expenses storm

Daughter-in-law of the former Labour leader accused of claiming £14,000 expenses to pay accountant for advice

Lord Kinnock’s daughter-in-law attempted to claim almost £14,000 in expenses
for accountancy advice after her husband became embroiled in a tax avoidance
dispute.

Helle Thorning-Schidmt, the leader of the Danish Social Democrats, ceded to
pressure to pay for the advice she received over the ongoing tax case involving
her and her husband, Stephen Kinnock, the 40-year-old son of the former Labour
leader, the

.

Mr Kinnock’s son was the subject of a tax probe in Denmark, which has the
highest income taxation rate in the world.

Speaking at a press conference, Thorning-Schidmt denied any wrongdoing.

“We have acted properly and lawfully, and I am sure that tax authorities will
confirm that,” she said.
