Welcome to the new Financialdirector.co.uk website

Easier to search, with more expert comment and FD voices. Get involved

Users of financialdirector.co.uk will notice that the site looks dramatically different today. That’s because we have just spent the best part of 2010 redesigning it from front to back, and a much refreshed, easier to use, more functional, more community-driven website for FDs and CFOs launches today.

If you grew rather fond of our old brown/black/gold colour scheme, we can only apologise – but we’ve taken a leap into the digital age and replaced it with our new brand colours, white and electric blue. We hope you’ll find it easier to read and prettier to look at.

But that’s just the cosmetic stuff. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into the way we serve up all our content, giving you the best of our analysis, insight, features, research and interviews with leading FDs – but in a much more organised, searchable way. And from today our website will not just reflect what’s in print: Financial Director’s editorial team, which includes our small army of expert commentators and finance directors, now generate plenty of web-only content so that every day, you’ll be able to find something fresh to read.

News
We select the most relevant and timely accounting, tax and practice news from our sister title Accountancy Age and put it on our news feed every day; this will be complemented with a broader view of economic, business, trends, appointments and regulation news from elsewhere to give you a full snapshot of the environment without overwhelming you. And when something big happens, Financial Director will be there with our own commentary when the news breaks. See all our news at www.financialdirector.co.uk/news

Opinion
We’re very excited to unveil the launch of our new blog, Extraordinary Items, at www.financialdirector.co.uk/blog: home to a roster of expert insight and commentary on a host of issues, both from inside the editorial team and outside. We invite you to unleash your responses and ideas on any and all of them – or get in touch if you want to write a blog on any topic. Lookout for our roster of bloggers:

First week every month
Dennis Turner, HSBC chief economist and FD’s economics columnist, brings to bear his love of music and passion for footie for our own take on Freakonomics – even we’re not sure what it will say yet, but be assured it will be highly entertaining and thought provoking
Caron Bradshaw, CEO of the Charity Finance Director’s Group, shares her sector’s work with the government on getting a fairer deal for charity in her blog, “Give and Take”

Second Week of every month
Stephen Fitzgerald, director of finance for the London Borough of Hounslow, will pull back the curtains on the inner turmoil of the public sector as it wrestles with huge budget cuts in his blog, “In The National Interest”. Expect cuttingly dry opinion
Our information and technology commentator will bring you the machinations of the CIO/FD relationship and how they pair can get along in their blog, “Mal Function”

Third week of every month
We give business representation groups, lobbyists and business institutes a platform to communicate ideas and moans to the FD community – and a chance for you to give them ideas and moan back – with our blog “The Value Adder”
Our deputy editor Richard Crump shares his view on the topic of the week in his “Deputy editor’s blog”

Fourth week of every month
Melanie Stern, editor of Financial Director magazine gives us her take on the topic of the day in her “Editor’s Blog”
A different FD each month from the FD Centre, the supplier of interim FDs, will give us both the regional take and insight into the job of marshalling finance in a startup or a growing business with its blog, “The Entrepreneur’s FD”

Videos

Now you will be able to find all of our current and archived video Q&A and our webcasts with a range of experts and FDs on topics including pensions, risk management and business intelligence. And over the coming months the Financial Director editorial team will be visiting FDs and experts to get their views on camera on the topics of the day – whether they’re in the pub or their own home. You can find all our videos at www.financialdirector.co.uk/video

All our research, FD Interviews, cover stories and more can be found easily at our newly refreshed site. And we want to make sure that our users get involved: feel free to comment on anything, and send us your thoughts on how to take the site forward – what you want to read, see and do with it.
And don’t forget that you can join the community of FDs at our LinkedIn site – or follow us at twitter.com/fdmagazine .
