FA appoints new CFO

Lawn Tennis Association FD Mark Donnelly lands “extraordinary” job

The Football Association’s (FA) acting chief executive Alex Horne will become its general secretary following the appointment of a permanent CFO in Mark Donnelly, currently finance director of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

Donnelly (pictured) does not yet have a firm start date but the FA said that its finance, human resources, legal and IT functions will report to him. He has been at the LTA since 2009 when he left his role as launch FD at London’s O2 Dome venue. Donnelly joined O2 from AEG where he had been a lead member of the venue’s construction team.

His boss at the FA, Alex Horne, was its FD between 2003 and 2006 before being seconded to managing director of Wembley Stadium when the project ran into trouble and was handed over from contractor Multiplex. He was promoted to chief operating officer of the FA in 2008, with responsibility for finance.

Donnelly said the opportunity to run finance at the FA was “extraordinary”, adding: “The FA and Wembley Stadium are English icons and I relish the chance to contribute to their development.”

Horne welcomed Donnelly’s sports business, venue management and build projects experience as “ideal for our current challenges”.
