ACCA sees member numbers surge, while student numbers hold firm

MEMBERSHIP OF ACCA has leaped to nearly 162,000 members over 2012/2013, up 8,000 on the previous year.

ACCA saw its member numbers leap a net 8,000, with 10,000 qualifying in the year.

The figure sees ACCA increase its global membership beyond the ICAEW, of which the English and Welsh institute has 140,573 members (according to the accounting regulator’s latest figures).

Student numbers also climbed for ACCA, up to 61,311 currently taking its qualification.

A survey commissioned by ACCA found that 89% of employers would recommend the institute to other organisations, while 76% said that ACCA delivered ‘complete finance professionals’.

“It is clear that there is a very good opportunity for professional accountancy qualifications, and the ACCA qualification remains highly relevant to all sectors, providing flexible routes to entry that work for school leavers and graduates of all disciplines,” said ACCA chief executive Helen Brand (pictured).

During the year, ACCA invested £12m in development programmes, with meber and student satisfaction scores improving to 73% from 70%, and to 76% from 75%, respectively.

The institute also opened new centres in Dalian, China, plus Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
