AVIVA has appointed Colm Holmes as chief financial officer for its UK and Ireland general insurance business.

Holmes joins Aviva from Zurich where he was group treasurer and head of capital management, Financial Director’s sister title Post reports. 

He takes over from Julian Woodford who has been interim CFO since April 2013. Woodford replaced Clifford Abrahams who became Aviva’s UK and Ireland Life CFO.

Maurice Tulloch, Aviva UK and Ireland GI chief executive, said: “Colm is an exceptional talent and he joins Aviva at an exciting time for the GI business. Pat Regan, Aviva’s group chief financial officer, said: “Colm is a great addition to the UK and Ireland GI executive team and given his impressive experience in wider finance roles, I also see him adding bench strength to the broader finance community at Aviva. While at Zurich, he held responsibility for managing the run-off of Centre Solutions, a US$10bn (£6.2bn) business at the time of going into run-off which underwrote Finite Reinsurance, Life and Health Reinsurance and Credit Enhancement transactions.

Holmes’ appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
