FORMER advertising agency man Tom Lewis has been appointed as finance director of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising.
Lewis, a chartered accountant, formally joins the IPA on 17 March, where he will begin a two-week handover with Alex Hunter who retires after seven years in the role.
He has held senior financial positions across the marketing services and advertising sectors, including Coca-Cola, Ogilvy & Mather, Huntsworth, Omnicom and Mediabrands, and most recently at crisis communications firm Regester Larkin where he held the position of group finance director.
Lewis three main areas of responsibility will be the financial stewardship of the IPA, its relationship with agency financial community which includes advising on agency remuneration and the relationship with key external parties including the IPA’s accountants, BARB, HMRC and other industry bodies.
IPA director general Paul Bainsfair said: “The role of IPA finance director has a far wider-reaching remit than just looking after the internal finances of the IPA, they have to be involved with adland, and our members, in the broadest sense.
“We are therefore delighted to have found Tom who has such a comprehensive understanding of both the world of finance and of the ad industry and who will be able to hit the ground running.”
The IPA is the trade body and professional institute for over 250 UK advertising and marketing agencies which together manage media and marketing budgets valued at over £30bn per annum.
