Kier appoints new FD as revenues hit £3bn

Beverley Dew joins Kier as FD from rivals Balfour Beatty

KIER GROUP has appointed former Balfour Beatty divisional finance director Beverley Dew as its new FD.

The FTSE 250 builder grabbed Dew, FD of Balfour’s regional business in the UK since June 2013, from its rival as it reported a 50% rise in revenues and profits, supported by its acquisition of May Guerney.

Kier said that sales rose to £3bn, while underlying operating profit increased 59% to reach £88m. Pre-tax profits fell by around half to £15m, as a result of one-off restructuring costs following the acquisition of May Gurney and contract write downs.

Dew will fill the role vacated by Haydn Mursell who became Kier’s chief executive in the summer. Previously, Dew was the CFO of the UK and CEMEA engineering and construction businesses at Lend Lease between September 2008 and December 2012.

He has also held senior roles at Redrow Group and Invensys Rail. He qualified as an accountant with Coopers and Lybrand in Bristol following a period working as a research physicist.

Commenting on the appointment, Phil White, chairman of Kier, said: “I am delighted that Bev will be joining us as finance director. His wide range of experience across the construction, services and residential sectors will make him an excellent addition to the board. I very much look forward to working with him.”
