FORMER Standard Chartered FD Richard Meddings has joined Legal & General as a non-executive director.
Meddings, who served at the investment bank during a tumultuous period, will join the insurer’s nomination, remuneration and risk committees.
Meddings has 30 years of banking and financial services experience, including 12 years at Standard Chartered. He previously served as group financial controller at Barclays and as COO of its wealth management, premium retail and life assurance businesses, having also served as Woolwich’s group FD and as a non-executive at 3i. Meddings is a non-executive at HM Treasury.
His time at StanChart ended in January 2014, as the group looked to drive growth in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Meddings was named Blue Chip FD of the Year in the 2009 Accountancy Age Awards, for his role in serving on the ‘crisis cabinet’ charged with creating the first bank bailout.
John Stewart, Legal & General chairman, said: “I am very pleased that Richard has agreed to join the Board. Richard brings a wealth of experience to the board and his extensive financial services background will further enhance the strength and diversity of experience on the board. Richard will be a valuable addition to the board and I look forward to working with him.”
