Rangers FD Leach ousted in boardroom takeover

Barry Leach and Derek Llambias unseated from Rangers board following shareholder vote

RANGERS finance director Barry Leach has been ousted from the football club’s board along with chief executive Derek Llambias after shareholders voted overwhelmingly to remove the pair at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) today.

Dave King, the South African businessman who holds a 14.5% in the club, was voted on to the Rangers board as he successfully unseated Llambias and Leach, two members of the board allied with Mike Ashley, the Sports Direct owner who owns a stake in the club.

Leach, who is head of brands at Ashley’s sportswear firm and had been acting as a consultant at Rangers since October, was named as finance chief in January.

His departure marks the latest twist in the battle for control of the Rangers board. In October, Graham Wallace resigned as Rangers’ chief executive days after chief financial officer and key boardroom ally Phillip Nash quit the club.

Rangers entered administration in February 2012 before going into liquidation later that year. The club later resurfaced in the Scottish Third Division, now known as Scottish League Two and now competes in the Scottish Championship, the country’s second tier.
