BUSINESSES should be appointing more women over 55 to senior posts, research from PwC suggests.
Only around 8% of business leaders have the best capabilities for their roles, the Big Four firm found in a survey of 6,000 European professionals carried out by psychometric specialist Harthill Consulting.
The research showed strategist leaders are most able to bring about transformational change due to their “wider experience of settings, people and also of failure”.
“This engenders a humility of perspective and resilience, so that they know what to do when things don’t work,” PwC said.
The largest portion of strategist leaders, PwC found, are women in the over-55 age group.
PwC partner Mark Dawson said: “Industries as diverse as big supermarkets, banking and healthcare have wicked problems knocking on their doors right now. How successfully they deal with these will largely depend on how well they can harness and retain strategist talent within their ranks.”
