Top finance captains appointed to new NED roles

Chris Kennedy and David Nish take up NED roles at Whitbread and the London Stock Exchange

A BRACE of senior finance chiefs have taken up new non-exec roles at the London Stock Exchange and brewery and hotel giant Whitbread.

Former PwC partner David Nish has been appointed as an independent NED on the board of the London Stock Exchange Group, a role that becomes effective immediately.

Nish, a former CEO of Standard Life from January 2010 to September 2015, joined the company as group FD in November 2006. Prior to that he was the group FD of Scottish Power from 1999 to 2005 and an ex-partner at Price Waterhouse.

He is a NED of the UK Green Investment Bank and, from 1 January 2016, Vodafone Group. Previously, he has been a NED of Northern Foods, Thus, HDFC Life (India) and was deputy chairman of the Association of British Insurers.

Meanwhile, Whitbread announced the appointment of Chris Kennedy, CFO at ARM Holdings, as a NED.

The 51-year-old qualified accountant was group FD of easyJet for five years, having previously spent 17 years in a variety of senior roles at music group EMI.

Kennedy’s appointment will be effective from 1 March 2016; he will also take over from Simon Melliss as chairman of its audit committee from 1 October 2016. Meliss will then step down from the board, after nine years.

Richard Baker, chairman of Whitbread, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Kennedy as a non-executive director. As well as having a strong financial background, his recent experience in an online, international, consumer-facing business with pricing models similar to those at Premier Inn will add significant value to the Whitbread board.”
