Shopping centre CFO Matthew Roberts takes Marston's non-exec role

Brewer Marston’s has appointed the CFO of Intu as a non-executive director and member of its audit committee.

Matthew Roberts (pictured), CFO of FTSE 100 shopping centre business Intu, will join the board of the independent pub and brewing business Marston on 1 March 2017. Intu’s offerings include Lakeside and the Trafford Centre.

Roberts, the former CFO of Gala Coral group, is a seasoned financial expert in both the property and multi-site consumer retail and leisure sector.

The CFO has also held senior roles in the Burton Group from 1989 to 1998 when he led the demerger from Debenhams in 1998.  He was FD of Debenhams from 1996 to 2003.

Before joining the corporate sector, chartered accountant Roberts worked for Coopers & Lybrand, now PwC, from 1985 to 1989, where he worked across corporate finance, audit and business service departments.

Marston’s chairman Roger Devlin said: “I am delighted to welcome Matthew to Marston’s and to the board.  His extensive property expertise and experience of a variety of high calibre, consumer-facing leisure and retail corporates will be highly relevant to Marston’s as we progress the continued development of our own business in pub-retailing and brewing.”
