Aviva restructures to focus on digital offering

New appointments announced as company targets growth in the UK

Insurer Aviva has named Andy Briggs CEO UK Insurance, as the company restructures to bring all of its insurance businesses together as part of its digital transformation.

Briggs will be responsible for life, general and health insurance in the UK. Maurice Tulloch will take over from David McMillan, chairman Aviva Global Health Insurance and CEO Aviva Europe, becoming CEO International Insurance, responsible for Aviva’s insurance operations in Canada, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Spain and Turkey.

McMillan, who will leave after 14 years at the insurer, was responsible for Aviva’s European and Indian businesses. He was also chairman of the subsidiary boards for France and Poland Life. He joined the executive board in April 2012.

Aviva Investors, Aviva Asia and the digital businesses will remain as separate entities.

Aviva has been through significant transformation over the past three years, as the company has aimed to focus its customer offering of insurance products through digital. It has also narrowed its geographic focus.

Mark Wilson, group CEO, said: “Aviva is entering a new phase in its transformation. We have fixed the balance sheet, focused the business, and turned the operating performance around. The business is developing rapidly.”

“We see significant opportunities to differentiate our business in the UK post-Brexit. We like the UK, we are investing in the UK, and we are growing in the UK,” Wilson added.
