Google’s Parrotron AI helps people with speech impediments talk freely
Search engine giant, Google’s AI division has been working on new software specifically aimed at consumers with verbal impairments. The company presented a new speech-to-text technology specifically designed for people with verbal impairments and atypical speech patterns. Parrotron, the software runs on a deep neural network trained to convert atypical speech patterns into fluent synthesized speech. Another interesting feature is that the technology doesn’t rely on cues like lip movement.

Salesforce’s Partner Relationship Management Platform gets an AI boost
CRM solutions provider, Salesforce has recently upgraded its partner relationship management (PRM) platform with AI and self-reporting capabilities that help channel managers optimize partner engagement. The PRM added features beneficial to vendors building partner portals. The latest release integrates Einstein Analytics to deliver insights to the channels of Salesforce customers. Incorporating Salesforce’s artificial intelligence platform into the PRM helps partners to keep track of trends and practices that can impact their business. PRM’s self-service reporting helps partners mine data on their practices and analyse their business.

AT&T seals major cloud deals with IBM and Microsoft as edge, AI and 5G key
Tech behemoth, IBM and AT&T have joined forces in a way that AT&T will use IBM’s cloud as well as the Red Hat platform. Both the firms will see benefits including the use of 5G speed at the end of the network enabling enterprises gaining better insights and efficiencies. The firms have been long-time partners and this current alliance is a progressive step in delivering flexibility to AT&T so it can provide customers with innovative services at a quicker pace.
The deal will further see AT&T migrating non-network infrastructure applications to Microsoft Azure, AT&T and Microsoft will strategize for ubiquitous computing majorly involving 5G and edge technologies. Commenting upon their partnership, Arvind Krishna, IBM SVP cloud and cognitive software said: “We are proud to collaborate with AT&T Business, provide the scale and performance of our global footprint of cloud data centres, and deliver a common environment on which they can build once and deploy in any one of the appropriate footprints to be faster and more agile.”

IBM Announces Data Asset eXchange (DAX) To Help Developers Use Open Data Alongside AI
IBM has recently launched Data Asset eXchange (DAX), an online centre which is built fir artificial intelligence developers and data scientists containing data sets under open data license. The data sets will be licensed under the Linus Foundation’s Community Data License Agreement (CDLA). The DAX was designed to complement the Model Asset eXchange (MAX), helps developers find and utilise state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning models for image, text, audio and video processing that and run in the cloud on Docker or Kubernetes.

How Oracle RPA systems can automate business tasks for users
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) can now be integrated into Oracle environments to strengthen business operations by using software robots. RPA software acts as a digital assistant to workers with the ability to handle most of the same functions and transactions, it further contributes to a company’s growth without having to worry about expansion of workforce. RPA tools are best suited to be incorporated with Oracle Integration (OI), a cloud service that supports automation and provides integration workflows between varied Oracle applications. RPA deployment is relatively quicker because then a user only needs a login and appropriate access privileges to connect to Oracle systems and applications.

Amazon plans to launch two robotic fulfilment centres in Ohio
Ecommerce giant, Amazon has plans to open a pair of cutting edge robotic fulfilment centres in Ohio. Spanning across 1.4 million sq. ft altogether, the fulfilment centres will be in Akron and Rossford. The launch of these centres will create nearly 2500 full time jobs in the area. The centres will be used to pick, pack and ship small items such as books, electronics and toys to customers.

Singapore’s soCash raises $6 million to convert retail stores into virtual branches
Singaporean startup, soCash has raised $6 million in a series A finance round led by Glory, with participation from Standard Chartered’s venture fund and SouthEast AsianVC Vintex Ventures. SoCash users can place a cash order via a mobile app and select a nearby merchant to collect the funds from, customers can also perform loan application at shops via the app. The technology plugs directly into bank back-ends via an API to automate the correspondence. The funds will be used to expand into markets in Indonesia, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

KAIST, Google join hands to train experts in AI
The Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has joined forces with Google to train experts in artificial intelligence (AI). IT has however, been working with Google to operate Asia’s first AI intensive research awards program. With the latest partnership, KAIST will run seven cooperative programs in the future including AI intensive research awards PhD fellowship, curriculum development and support, Google cloud platform training support, Google internship and Google visit.
