Motor tax cuts could follow road pricing plans

Motoring taxation could be cut, despite the
plan for a nationwide road pricing scheme.

A Whitehall insider told the FT that a national road pricing scheme
could pave the way for changes to the current car tax regime, suggesting a

‘We’ve always said that, if we did it, it would be a revenue-neutral
exercise,’ the insider said.

In an
sent by the prime minister to
1.8 million road
pricing protestors
, Tony Blair said the government was not rushing
into road pricing and no firm decision had been made on the strategy.
