Colin Burns moves from PET bottles to cider bottles becoming international finance director at Bulmers, the Hereford-based cidermaker. Burns joins the manufacturers of Strongbow and Scrumpy Jack from German PET bottle manufacturer Schmalbach Lubeca, where he held the position of financial controller, business development. His new role will see him at the core of attempts to develop an international market for Bulmers’ brands.

Stuart Miller has been appointed finance director of the Dexion Group, the storage and handling group. Miller has previously held the FD role at companies as diverse as Lex Service, Grand Metropolitan and Rixan.

David Hodson moves from housebuilding to bricks becoming the FD at brick company Blockleys. He joins from Beazer Homes where he was FD and company secretary and will slot into the vacancy created by current FD Ken Kinnear who retires in the summer. He joins the Blockley board this month.

Kenwood Appliances, the food mixer group, has announced the appointment of a new finance director following the resignation of current FD Kieran Moloney. Graham Wickenden joins the company before Moloney leaves in May to ensure a smooth hand over. Wickenden joins from Elementis where he was director of finance and IT at Akcros Chemicals. He has also held senior financial positions at Budgens and Delta. Moloney leaves for what’s being described as “personal reasons” after only 19 months in the job. Last year the company was #11m in the red, but analysts are predicting a reversal of fortunes for the company this year.

David Brocksom has been appointed group finance director of Tele-Cine Cell Group. He replaces Nick Igoe who resigned following his appointment as FD at West Ham United football club. Brocksom joins from the Westport Group who are involved in media and advertising facilities. He held the position of group finance director.

Silver Shield, the windscreen repair and replacement specialist, has appointed Richard Abolins to the role of finance director. Abolins moves in to replace the previous FD, Chris Evans, who left the company in January 1996. Abolins is a chartered accountant and has worked for various insurance and consumer service companies, most recently for Ebley Tyre Services where he was company accountant. His role as FD will see him involved in implementing IT solutions.

David Cannon, currently chief financial officer at BZW, the former investment banking arm of Barclays, is to join Ernst & Young as managing partner. He will start his new position in April and will head the financial services office. Cannon is very familiar with Ernst & Young having previously spent twenty years there specialising in investment banking sales and trading. He spent nine years as a partner with the firm and most recently was in charge of its capital markets group. He replaces Robin Heath who joins Ernst & Young’s UK executive taking responsibility for the firm’s London operation.

Securicor Recruitment Services has finally filled the vacant position of finance director with the appointment of Ken Youngman. The position has been open for the last six months, with the previous FD leaving to start a family. Youngman, a qualified chartered accountant, is a member of the Institute of Directors and joins from AEI Rediffusion Music where he also held the FD spot.

A passion for fast cars has led to the appointment of Robert Bain as finance director at Brands Hatch Leisure. Bain was a member of the Ernst & Young team that floated the company 18 months ago.

Railway company Silverlink Train Services has appointed Liz Pike as finance director. Pike has spent most of her career with Granada. She was financial controller for Granada Motorways before being promoted to the position of financial controller for the Granada Group as a whole. She was involved in the company’s hostile and indeed successful take over bid for Forte. She left the company at the end of last year and joins Silverlink in order to help manage and build the financial aspect of the business.

ISA International, who distribute computer consumable products, has appointed Geoffrey Stevens as group finance director. He joins from Goldsborough Healthcare where he was group finance director.

United Overseas Group, the international distribution company, will soon be taking delivery of a group finance director, Terry Balkham. Balkham is currently director of finance and logistics for Hasbro Inc, Northern Europe. Balkham will move into the newly created position on 23 March. Balkham is no stranger to the world of finance having previously been the FD of Sharps Bedrooms and group chief accountant of Bristol-Myers UK. News of the appointment was well received in the City, with share prices almost doubling in value.

Phil Cox is adding to his FD duties at supermarket chain Asda by taking up a new position at Virgin Rail Group. Cox becomes the non-executive chairman of the company, taking over from Stephen Murphy.

Andy Barnes has been appointed FD at Tooling Products, a subsidiary of the Weir Group. Qualified as a chartered accountant Barnes moves from sister company Strachan & Henshaw where he was employed for 10 years. He began as chief accountant and moved up to the position of financial controller.
