Freestone adds Cable & Wireless role to growing NED portfolio

Former Pearson finance chief adds CWC to Smith & Nephew and moneysupermarket.com NED roles

ROBIN FREESTONE has joined the board of Cable & Wireless Communications, adding yet another non-executive position to his burgeoning portfolio of NED roles.

The outgoing chief financial officer of Pearson, the former publisher of the Financial Times, joins CWC from 17 August as a non-exec and member of the FTSE 250 telco’s audit, nomination and remuneration committees.

Freestone has already picked up non-exec positions at medical technology group Smith & Nephew and online financial services group moneysupermarket.com since stepping down as Pearson CFO earlier this year.

Pearson CFO since 2006, Freestone is a well-regarded FTSE 100 CFO and has chaired the influential Hundred Group of Finance Directors.

Sir Richard Lapthorne, Cable & Wireless Communications chairman commented: “On behalf of the board, I am pleased to welcome Robin Freestone as a non-executive director. Robin’s breadth of executive and finance experience gained through his successful and extensive career will make a valuable contribution to the board.”
