Old uncle Tom Cobbleigh breaks family tradition
Pity the poor old brewing analyst. Not only has the emergence of the “pub co” added considerably to his workload but few of them are content to stand still. The latest excitement in the City has been the news that pub chain Tom Cobbleigh was “in talks which might lead to an offer” as the jargon has it. Rumours spread swiftly of a consortium including names such as Dan Gurney and Dan Brewer and relatives such as Tom’s nephew.
What disappointment, then, to discover the bidder was the much more prosaic Rank Organisation. Where has the romance gone?
