On the move - Murray suits Moss Bros

This month's movers and shakers in financial director careers.

Moss Bros has named Roddy Murray as its new FD. He replaces Richard Scott. Murray previously spent four years as FD at Mackays Stores.

Phil Lee will be the new group FD of Britannia Building Society. Lee, currently at West Bromwich Building Society, is expected to take up the role in October 2002. He takes over from deputy chief exec Neville Richardson, who succeeds Graham Stow as chief exec on 1 November.

Darren Shapland is to succeed Carpetright FD Shena Winning in October 2002. Shapland has retail experience at Burton Group, Arcadia, and in his current role as FD for Superdrug Stores.

Jewellery company Theo Fennell has appointed Gavin Saunders as FD, replacing Neil Goulder. Saunders spent eight years at PricewaterhouseCoopers before joining Tiffany & Co as UK finance manager. He became Tiffany’s UK FD a year later.

Knowledge Support Systems has appointed FD Iain Cockburn as interim chief exec, following David Mushin’s dismissal. The software company recently issued its fourth sales warning in less than two years.

EMAP non-exec Henry Staunton has been forced to resign from his role at the media group, as a ruling from the Radio Authority has found he cannot hold directorships of Granada, where he is FD, and EMAP at the same time.

Mark James has been made FD at Vauxhall Motors, replacing Harry Burkutean, who has joined Fiat-GM Powertrain in Turin as vice president, finance. Prior to joining Vauxhall in 2001, James was director of special projects for General Motors Europe.

Outsourcing company Digica has appointed Caroline Whalley-Hunter as group FD. Whalley-Hunter has spent ten years in the IT industry, including positions with Bull and, most recently, as FD of managed services, north, at CSC.

Food supplier Discovery Foods has appointed Tony Chapman group FD and company secretary. Chapman has worked in senior finance roles in the food industry for 12 years, including positions with Sidney Hackett.

Durlacher compliance director Graeme Gordon has been promoted to FD, succeeding Graham Chamberlain. Gordon joined Durlacher in January 2002 from corporate finance house Regent Technology, where he was CFO.

E-learning content company Fuel has named Dan Alexander FD. Alexander has previously been involved in technology company investment with HSBC Private Equity.

Integration software provider Kalido has appointed Michael Landau as CFO. Landau has extensive experience in financial management and performance monitoring after positions at Staffware and PwC.

Paul Gormley, FD of e-learning and HR management company AdVal Group has resigned. Richard Horsley has joined the company as a consultant and will take on Gormley’s responsibilities.

Synergy Healthcare has appointed Julia Wilson group FD, with current group FD Richard Pearson becoming corporate development director. Wilson joins from Sara Lee Courtalds, where she was group FC.

Adrian Povey is the new group FD of printer Thomas Potts. He succeeds Ed Slater, who steps down from the position but retains a full-time role with the group. Povey joins from Huntleigh Technology, where he has served as group FC since 1996.

Leeds United has promoted FD Stephen Harrison to COO. His new role will combine responsibility for commercial activities, marketing, operations, retail and travel, in addition to his current finance role.

Telematics and fleet management company Cybit has appointed Kevin Lawrence FD. Lawrence has spent 18 years in senior financial roles at companies including Lighthouse Group.

Zyzygy, formerly known as Channel Health, has named Edward Oliver as acting FD and company secretary. He will later assume a non-exec role.

Navan Mining FD Christopher Neal has resigned and company secretary Simon Olsen will be acting CFO.

Richard Hodsden is the new FD of storage company Safestore. Hodsden joins from Globevault, the security printing business demerged from The Stationery Office.

Adrian Sebastian is the new director of finance and administration at In Kind Direct, a charity founded by the Prince of Wales in 1996. Sebastian joins from Bank of America, where he was a project manager. He has also served as FD of the Shaftesbury Society.
