Strategy & Operations » Leadership & Management » Audioboom turns up volume with appointment of ex-Apple man as CFO

DAVID MCDONAGH, the former head finance for Apple iTunes, has been selected as the new CFO at Audioboom, the spoken-word audio on-demand mobile platform.

McDonagh joins from WideOrbit, a broadcast technology and sell-side processor of premium advertising operator, and will report to CEO Rob Proctor for strategic financial planning, reporting and management of Audiboom’s high growth strategy.

He will not, initially, join the board, but will “play an important role in the board process”.

While at Apple iTunes, McDonagh had operational as well as financial responsibilities and managed the marketing and royalty budgets for the iTunes Festival. Before that, he spent six years at the world’s most valuable company including a role in sales operations, managing the iPod category.

McDonagh was also responsible for ‘route to market’ for retail and iPhone and was involved in the successful EMEIA launch of the iPhone in 2007. In 2009, he was headhunted from Apple to be the EMEA FD for Palm, subsequently HP, to launch Palm in Europe.

Rob Proctor, CEO of Audioboom, said: “David brings a depth of strategic and operational finance experience from private equity start-ups through to the best-known names in technology and innovation, including Apple, Hewlett Packard and Telefonica. David has a track record of delivering commercial results through his financial insight and business partnering skills.”

He will formally take up the CFO role on 18 May 2015.
