The Restaurant Group hires Greene King CFO

Kirk Davis will join The Restaurant Group in February 2018, while Greene King has announced the appointment of Mothercare CFO to the vacant role

The chief financial officer of Greene King Kirk Davis is leaving the company to join The Restaurant Group as CFO.

Davis joined Greene King in 2014 having previously held key finance roles at JD Wetherspoon and Tesco. Over the past three years he has been tasked with unlocking the financial potential of the £774m acquisition of the Spirit Pub Company, which took place in 2015.

The Restaurant Group, of which the trading brands include Frankie & Benny’s, Chiquito and Coast to Coast, has appointed Davis following the departure of Barry Nightingale in April this year, after less than a year in the CFO role. Nightingale was previously CFO of Monarch Airlines.

CEO of The Restaurant Group Andy McCue, said: “Kirk’s proven skill-set and highly relevant experience position him ideally for the CFO role at The Restaurant Group. I very much look forward to welcoming Kirk to the business and to working with him.”

McCue took over the CEO role in August 2016. Prior to his role of The Restaurant Group, he was CEO of Paddy Power ahead the bookmaker’s merger with Betfair.

New CFO appointment at Greene King

Following the announcement of Davis’ departure, Greene King announced the appointment of Richard Smothers as CFO. Smothers has been CFO of Mothercare since 2015.

Rooney Anand, CEO of Greene King, said: “I am delighted that Richard Smothers is joining us as Chief Financial Officer. Richard has 20 years of experience at blue chip retail and consumer-focused companies in senior financial roles. He is a great addition to the executive team as we seek to become Britain’s best pub company and to continue to deliver long-term growth and value to shareholders.”

Davis will take up the CFO position at The Restaurant Group in February 2018. Smothers will join Greene King in December this year before taking up the CFO position in February.
